History

Before the year 1492, Cuba used to be inhabited by indian tribes such as Sibones, later on Tainos & Caribs. In the year 1492 Christopher Columbus first arrived to the cuban shores. In the year 1511 Cuba became a Spanish colony and it remained as such for a period of 400 years. The indigenous black inhabitants of this island were enslaved and the slavery remained here until the end of the 19th century when Cuba set itself free from the dependence on Spain. There was also a short term when Cuba was under the administration of USA. The independent state of Cuba came into being on the 20th of May 1902. The USA withdrew its army troops under the
condition of keeping in rental their military base in Guantanámo. In the year 1933 the general Fulgencio Batista y Zaldívar came into power. In 1956 the Cuban revolution burst out and it has ended by the victory of the revolutionaries in the year 1959, with the help of local people. In the head of this revolution were Che Guevara & Fidel Castro. Castro immediately took over the power. Meanwhile, Che Guevara became a training chief of the army and in 1961 he also became a minister of the industry. On the 8th October of 1967 he was shot dead in Bolivia. His name became a symbol of the Cuban revolution.
